सुलतानपुर। भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) नेता और पीलीभीत से निवर्तमान सांसद वरुण गांधी बृहस्पतिवार को सुलतानपुर से पार्टी उम्मीदवार अपनी मां मेनका गांधी के पक्ष में प्रचार करने के लिए यहां पहुंचे। सुलतानपुर सीट पर प्रचार के आखिरी दिन एक चुनावी सभा को सम्बोधित करते हुए वरुण ने जनता के साथ अपनी मां के आत्मीय रिश्ते का जिक्र किया। उन्होंने कहा, ”देश में हर जगह चुनाव हो रहे हैं… लेकिन देश में एक ऐसा क्षेत्र है जहां लोग अपने सांसद को सांसद जी, मंत्री जी या उनके नाम से नहीं बुलाते बल्कि क्षेत्र के लोग उन्हें माता जी कहकर बुलाते हैं।
सुलतानपुर से लगातार दूसरी बार सांसद बनने के लिए कोशिश कर रहीं मेनका ने ‘पीटीआई वीडियो’ से बातचीत में कहा, ”वरुण गांधी यहां हैं और वह आज 15-20 बैठक करेंगे। उनके प्रचार से हमें निश्चित रूप से फायदा होगा।” मेनका ने मतदाताओं से अपने व्यक्तिगत हित को ध्यान में रखते हुए मतदान करने का भी आग्रह किया। उन्होंने कहा, ”वोट डालने से पहले जनता को सोचना चाहिए कि कौन सा सांसद उनका काम कर सकता है। उसके बाद ही वे वोट करें।” यह पहली बार है जब वरुण गांधी इस लोकसभा चुनाव में प्रचार के लिये उतरे हैं। वह साल 2019 में पीलीभीत से सांसद चुने गये थे लेकिन इस बार भाजपा ने उनका टिकट काट दिया। उसके बाद से वरुण सार्वजनिक मंच से दूर थे। पार्टी ने इस बार जितिन प्रसाद को पीलीभीत से अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया।
पीलीभीत में पहले चरण में मतदान हुआ था। वरुण वर्ष 2014 के लोकसभा चुनाव में सुलतानपुर से सांसद चुने गये थे। मगर 2019 में उन्हें उनकी मां मेनका गांधी की जगह पीलीभीत से टिकट दिया गया था, जबकि मेनका को सुलतानपुर से मैदान में उतारा गया था। इन दोनों ने ही अपनी—अपनी सीटों पर जीत दर्ज की थी। सुलतानपुर में लोकसभा चुनाव के छठे चरण में 25 मई को मतदान होना है। इस चरण का चुनाव प्रचार आज शाम छह बजे खत्म हो जाएगा। सुलतानपुर में मेनका गांधी का मुकाबला समाजवादी पार्टी के राम बहादुर निषाद और बहुजन समाज पार्टी के उदय राज वर्मा से है।
