समाजवादी पार्टी (सपा) का दामन छोड़ राष्ट्रीय शोषित समाज पार्टी के नाम से राजनीतिक दल बनाने वाले पूर्व मंत्री स्वामी प्रसाद मौर्य ने शुक्रवार को लोकसभा चुनाव में नगीना क्षेत्र से आजाद समाज पार्टी (कांशीराम) के उम्मीदवार चंद्रशेखर आजाद को समर्थन देने की घोषणा की। पिछड़ा वर्ग के प्रमुख नेता मौर्य ने ‘एक्स’ पर एक पोस्ट में कहा, नगीना लोकसभा क्षेत्र (सुरक्षित) से आजाद समाज पार्टी (कांशीराम) के प्रत्याशी चंद्रशेखर आजाद को राष्ट्रीय शोषित समाज पार्टी समर्थन देती है। मौर्य ने कहा, आजाद युवा, कर्मठ, जुझारू और सामाजिक न्याय के प्रति समर्पित एक क्रांतिकारी नेता हैं, जिन्हें नगीना लोकसभा की जनता के द्वारा अपार समर्थन भी मिल रहा है।
अतः नगीना लोकसभा की सम्मानित जनता से उन्हे प्रचंड बहुमत के साथ जिताने की अपील करता हूं।’ स्वामी प्रसाद मौर्य पांच बार विधानसभा के सदस्य, मायावती और योगी आदित्यनाथ के नेतृत्व की सरकारों में उत्तर प्रदेश में मंत्री और विपक्ष के नेता भी रहे हैं। वह योगी आदित्यनाथ के नेतृत्व की भाजपा सरकार (2017-2022) में श्रम मंत्री रहे थे। मौर्य 11 जनवरी 2022 को योगी सरकार में श्रम मंत्री पद से इस्तीफा देकर सपा में शामिल हुए और कुशीनगर की फाजिलनगर सीट से विधानसभा चुनाव लड़ा। चुनाव में पराजित होने के बाद सपा ने उन्हें विधान परिषद का सदस्य बनाया और पार्टी में राष्ट्रीय महासचिव की जिम्मेदारी सौंपी। पार्टी प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव से मतभेद के चलते इसी वर्ष फरवरी में मौर्य ने विधान परिषद और सपा से इस्तीफा देकर अपनी पार्टी बनाई।
