उत्तर प्रदेश के मुजफ्फरनगर जिले के खतौली विधानसभा क्षेत्र के उपचुनाव के लिए सोमवार को होने वाले मतदान से पहले पैसे और शराब बांटने के आरोप में पुलिस ने रविवार को यहां छह लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया। पुलिस के एक अधिकारी ने यह जानकारी दी। पुलिस के अनुसार आरोपियों के कब्जे से 51,000 रुपये भी जब्त किए गये हैं, जो कथित तौर पर एक विशेष उम्मीदवार के पक्ष में वितरण के लिए थे।
पुलिस उपाधीक्षक (डीएसपी) राकेश कुमार सिंह ने बताया कि गुप्त सूचना मिली थी कि कुछ लोग एक विशेष उम्मीदवार के पक्ष में मतदान के लिए पैसे और शराब बांट रहे हैं और इसी आधार पर जांच अभियान चलाया गया। सिंह ने कहा कि कर्मवीर सिंह, सुखबीर सिंह, दीपचंद, पुनीत कसाना, अरुण कुमार और गौतम को मामले में गिरफ्तार किया गया, जिन पर उम्मीदवार के पक्ष में पैसा और शराब बांटने का आरोप है। इनकी गिरफ्तारी दो अलग-अलग स्थानों से की गई। पुलिस ने कहा कि उनके पास से 51,000 रुपये और नकदी के कथित वितरण के विवरण वाला एक मोबाइल फोन बरामद किया गया है।
इस संबंध में उनके खिलाफ भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 171 एच (चुनाव लड़ रहे किसी भी उम्मीदवार के पक्ष में अवैध भुगतान) और 188 (लोक सेवक द्वारा विधिवत आदेश की अवज्ञा) के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया है। खतौली विधानसभा क्षेत्र में भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) के विधायक विक्रम सैनी को अदालत से सजा सुनाये जाने के बाद उनकी विधानसभा सदस्यता रद्द होने के बाद उपचुनाव हो रहा है। उपचुनाव के लिये सोमवार पांच दिसंबर को मतदान होगा। भाजपा ने यहां विक्रम की पत्नी राजकुमारी सैनी को उम्मीदवार बनाया है जबकि उनके मुकाबले राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के मदन भैया समाजवादी पार्टी के समर्थन से चुनाव मैदान में हैं। खतौली में कुल 14 उम्मीदवार अपनी किस्मत आजमा रहे हैं। हालांकि कांग्रेस और बहुजन समाज पार्टी ने चुनाव से दूरी बनाए रखी है।
